Display Advertisement, also known as Banner Advertisement, is embedded into a particular web page. It is intended to attract traffic on a website onto the website of the advertisers. It is made by using web 2.0 technologies and employs audio, video or just bare images and text.
The web banner is displayed when a web page that references the banner is loaded into a web browser. This event is known as an "impression". When the viewer clicks on the banner, the viewer is directed to the website advertised in the banner. This event or process is known as a "click through". When the advertiser scans his log files and detects that a web user has visited the advertiser's site from the content site by clicking on the banner ad, he sends the content provider some small amount of money.
Web banners function in a similar manner as traditional advertisements function, They notifying consumers of the product or service and presenting reasons why the consumer should choose the product in question. The results of advertisement campaigns may be monitored real time and may be targeted to the viewer's interests.
Many web surfers regard these advertisements as highly annoying because they distract from a web page's actual content or waste bandwidth. They can be made in various sizes such as 280 by 336 (Large Rectangle), 150 by 180 (Rectangle), 60 by 468 (Full Banner) and 31 by 88 (Micro Bar) etc.
The basic objective of Banner Advertising is to get branding through visibility everywhere. The cost of the Banner Advertisement is normally calculated as CPM or cost of 1000 impression. So, the advertisers have to pay money to the publishers who provide them visitors. It’s a good way to drag more visitors.
